Thermoforming is used to manufacture parts from .1 to 15 mm (.004 to .6 in) thick plastic plates or reels. Almost all thermoplastic materials may be used in thermoforming. All thermoformed parts need to be cut from the plate or reel. This cutting may be performed in the machine itself or in a later processing step. There are many kinds of parts that can be manufactured by thermoforming. Among those made with fine plates, we may quote: disposable glasses and cups; boxes for cakes or candies; filling of cooling towers; toys; separators and boxes for fruits; tridimensional displays; shells for foundry work; egg packing. Among the parts made with thick plates: refrigerators and freezers liners; bathroom cabinets; lavatories and washtubs; truck buses and airplanes interiors; trays, toys, pallets; dental equipment, furniture, displays, etc.
